The Iowa Primary Care Association received a $266,104 System and Capacity Building Grant from Delta Dental of Iowa to support our work as we navigate a new Electronic Health Record (EHR) Solution, OCHIN Epic. Wisdom, an integrated dental health record, is included in Epic, and will allow Iowa’s community health centers to provide patients with comprehensive, integrated care.
Wisdom is fully integrated in the Epic suite, which supports shared care planning for patients among medical, dental, behavioral health, and other providers. It supports treatment planning and builds on the subset of dental features available in EpicCare Ambulatory, including basic features for periodontal charting and soft tissue exams. By integrating medical and dental information, Wisdom allows for greater care coordination.
Oral health is essential to overall health but often exists in a data silo. This lack of data exchange can make it difficult for community health center providers to understand which patients have access to care, and can impact quality and cost of care, patient and staff satisfaction, and health equity. With the new, integrated system, community health centers will be able to provide comprehensive care to support better patient outcomes.
