Betsy Danforth Richey, MPH, PhD
Senior Director of Data and Technology
Betsy Danforth Richey serves as the Senior Director of Data and Technology at the Iowa Primary Care Association, INConcertCare, and IowaHealth+. She holds a Master’s in Public Health and her PhD in Applied Medical Anthropology.
Betsy broad experience includes roles in the government, non-profit and private sectors, focusing on data-driven health initiatives, systems change, and data governance and management. Betsy started her career working to understand and address non-medical drivers of health among adolescents in Tanzania. She then worked in local public health and social support in multiple states to develop programs and plans to ensure healthcare resources are available to all populations.
Betsy has a strong background in value-based care and public health informatics and has worked at federal and state levels to develop IT and data systems to improve quality health outcomes. She has effectively developed government/academic partnerships to create integrated data systems and advanced analytics for policy and program evaluation, created public-facing epidemiology resources to drive multi-sector health planning, and has developed predictive risk models to identify high risk individuals and populations.
In her role as the Senior Director of Data and Technology, she oversees reporting, technology, and EHR Optimization. During her tenure, the Iowa PCA and sister health information technology organization, INConcertCare, became first state-wide network of community health centers to implement a shared EHR platform, which has transformed our ability to provide comprehensive, integrated medical, dental and behavioral health care, and have the integrated data and technology to manage and evaluate population health outcomes.
