Senior Data Analyst

PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Senior Data Analyst will be primarily responsible for working with our Iowa Primary Care Association, INConcertCare, Inc. health center members and our IowaHealth+ Accountable Care Organization (ACO) clinical performance improvement, data analytics staff to develop, and implement data products that facilitate clinical, strategic, and operational decision-making.

The Senior Data Analyst works under the direction of the Clinical Informatics Manager to develop, implement, and maintain data products and contribute to the organization’s mission by adhering to the core values and supporting the goal of more efficient and effective healthcare delivery.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Population Health Management Implementation & Management

  • Analyze clinical process flows and map data elements from electronic medical record (EMR) and practice management (PM) systems to data objects in population health management tool(s).
  • Participate in project management, data analysis, and data validation activities required to implement population health management software tools.
  • Develop data quality metrics and reports to manage clinical data mappings (metrics and values) and assure the validity of data presented via Population Health Management (PHM) tool.
  • Develop expertise in operation of PHM tool as both user and administrator.

Create and administer dashboards to view population level health data and close gaps in quality for the established cohort of patients.

Data Product Development & Management

  • Create logical data models to optimize analysis and reporting of electronic medical record (EMR), practice management (PM), and healthcare claims data.
  • Develop meaningful, efficient dashboards and visualizations using Tableau.
  • Design, create, test, and productionalize extract, transform, and load (ETL) programs using custom built SQL or by usage of integration tools like SSIS to build & maintain the data structures created.
  • Design, create, test, and deploy reports and data visualizations in support of clinic operations, performance improvement initiatives, and accountable care organization performance metrics.
  • Implement and manage multi-tenant reporting and data visualization infrastructure.
  • Provide technical support to data analysts at associated health centers.
  • Translate complex reporting needs into technical specifications, including calculations, custom groups, parameters, filtering criteria, aggregations, etc.
  • Tune complex workbooks and large datasets for optimal performance and maintainability.
  • Build and publish customized interactive Tableau reports and dashboards along with data refresh scheduling using Tableau Desktop and Tableau Server.
  • Effectively utilize features and Best Practices of Tableau, Arcadia/Enli and visual analytics to maximize impact and utility of visualization products.
  • Transition existing reports from existing reporting platforms to Tableau or Arcadia/Enli (most optimal) reporting application as well as developing new reports as assigned. Provide staff support to the Data Governance/Analytics Steering Committee. Monitor and ensure compliance with adopted data governance standards.
  • Provide Tier II/III Help Desk support to health center staff for escalated tickets related to data analytics systems and infrastructure.

Analytics Consulting

  • Independently perform descriptive and inferential statistical analyses to support operational and strategic decision-making.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s Degree in Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Engineering, or Information Technology preferred.
  • Ability to work programmatically with data from a variety of sources (flat files, relational database management systems, spreadsheets, etc.)
  • Understanding of database design constructs (e.g., tables, views, stored-procedures, and functions.) and exposure to database administration constructs (roles, permissions, etc.)—MS SQL Server experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in design, development, testing, and documentation of reporting and analysis programs.
  • Experience gathering functional and non-functional requirements from end-users/consumers of data and reporting products.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite is required.
  • Advanced project management skills preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology.

Basic understanding of electronic health record (EHR) data structures preferred.

Mandatory Skills:

  • Five years demonstrated work experience with structured query language (SQL).
  • Five years demonstrated work experience with report writing/development and data analysis
  • High analytical skills, language and reasoning ability. Excellent business acumen.
  • Solid understanding of relational database concepts and ability to design analytical reports.
  • Proficiency with analytics tools such as SAS, SQL, and Tableau.

  • GE Centricity EHR & i2i
  • Athena and NextGen EHRs
