Iowa Primary Care Association HIT Application Support & Reporting Specialist


The HIT Application Support & Reporting Specialist will be a cross-functional member of the Iowa Primary Care Association, INConcertCare and IowaHealth+. In this capacity, this role will triage help desk tickets, take incoming help desk related calls, and develop relationships with technology teams at member Health Centers as well as our third-party software support vendors.  In addition to general application support, this team member will also provide data reporting development and support. 


The following duties are normal for this position.  These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned.

Support and maintenance of HIT (50%-75%)

  • Responsible for clinical aspects of EHR issue troubleshooting including:
    • Development of end user testing scenarios
    • Defining test patients
    • Conducting, analyzing and reporting results of system testing of end user and clinical operations application.
  • Serve as member of the support team responsible for clinical/end-user support.
  • Work with staff at health center sites to solve problems specific to their center.
  • Utilize and manage INCC’s up-to-date ticket tracking system.
  • Works with staff over the phone at health center sites to solve problems specific to EHR development, implementation and maintenance.
  • Develop relationships with third party software vendors that are supported by INConcertCare.
  • Support, test and correct interface mappings

Data Product Development & Management (25% - 50%)

  • Design, create and manage reports of electronic medical record (EHRS), practice management (PM), and healthcare claims data.
  • Support data visualizations in support of clinic operations, performance improvement initiatives, and accountable care organization performance metrics.
  • Serves as primary point of contact for data reporting and analytic tool help desk support to health centers.
  • Develops, maintains, and troubleshoots EHR and data reporting including custom reports for Iowa PCA staff and IowaHealth+ member centers.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in healthcare related field and/or Information Technology preferred.
  • Ability to work programmatically with data from a variety of sources (flat files, relational database management systems, spreadsheets, etc.) includes working knowledge of database design constructs (e.g., tables, views, stored procedures, and functions.) MS SQL Server experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in design, development, testing, and documentation of reporting and data analytics programs.
  • Experienced user of HIT applications or prior experience implementing /maintaining / supporting HIT applications in the ambulatory/outpatient setting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite is required.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in data management, reporting, or analysis preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology; clinical experience preferred.

Mandatory Skills:

  • Two years demonstrated work experience supporting / maintaining HIT applications.
  • Two years demonstrated work experience with report writing/development and data analysis.
  • High analytical skills, language and reasoning ability. Excellent business acumen.
  • Demonstrated experience providing strong customer service.
  • Solid understanding of relational database concepts and ability to design analytical reports.

  • Tableau/Crystal
  • Centricity Practice Solutions
  • Athena and NextGen EHRs
  • Working knowledge of analytics tools such as SSRS, SQL, and Tableau.
