Iowa Primary Care Association Financial/Grant Accountant


This position will assist the Senior Director of Finance and Financial Analyst with financial accounting duties such as collecting, analyzing, investigating and reporting financial data in order to ensure all commitments are met and contribute toward our goal of delivering quality service to the Iowa Primary Care Association, INConcertCare, and IowaHealth+ and their partners and members.


The following duties are normal for this position.  These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Essential Functions:

General Ledger

  • Prepare regular and timely reconciliation of accounts to ensure accuracy.
  • Assist in preparing monthly accruals.
  • Prepare journal entries for appropriate adjustments to balance sheet and income statement accounts.

Accounts Receivable

  • Perform monthly invoicing.
  • Apply payments as needed.
  • Monitor accounts and follow up on uncollected accounts receivable.

Accounts Payable

  • Receive, organize and properly enter all accounts payable invoices.
  • Track all correspondence with vendors and resolve vendor inquiries as it pertains to the payable function.
  • Assist with administering employee expenditures including but not limited to credit card statements and expenses reimbursements.
  • Review purchase orders, quotes, or contracts and resolve discrepancies.
  • Process payables checks, mail and file appropriate paperwork.
  • Maintain accurate filling of invoices and payments.
  • Stay proactive in obtaining all necessary invoices on a timely basis.
  • Preparation and distribution of annual IRS Form 1099 for applicable payees.


  • Process payroll.
  • Enter employee time allocation into spreadsheets.
  • Track employee paid leave; periodically report paid leave balances to employees.

Grant Management

  • Assist in generating all reporting associated with designated awards.
  • Assist in addressing all financial needs and questions; maintaining budgets; providing oversight for projected balances, expenses and payroll; spending levels.

Special Projects and Analysis

  • Maintain company contracts, ensuring appropriate filing convention and document retention.
  • Handle highly confidential information, including payroll.
  • Complete special projects as assigned, which may include but are not limited to assistance with the annual audits, preparation of the Forms 990, bookkeeping and compliance reporting for Iowa Primary Care Association and related and contracted entities.
  • Assists with providing staff training on internal finance processes/procedures.
  • Supervision Received:
    • Direction and supervision are received from the Senior Director of Finance .Additional training and support provided by the Financial Analyst.


This job supervises the Accounting Intern.

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in accounting.
  • 1-3 years of Accounting work experience or internship.
  • Knowledge of standard accounting practices and procedures.
  • Demonstrated high proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly with Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills. Interacts effectively with staff across the organization.
  • Attention to detail and ensuring accuracy of data.
  • Ability to take direction and perform successfully both independently and as a team member.
  • Ensures compliance with accounting standards, grant requirements and internal policies and procedures in all activities performed.
