Health Information Technology Program Manager in Urbandale, IA


The Health Information Technology (Health IT) Program Manager will report to the Senior Director of Health Information Technology, and will support member centers through a combination of project management and Health IT / EMR training and coaching activities, which include supporting and optimizing health information technology at the Federally Qualified Health Centers in Iowa and Nebraska. Occasional travel around the state is required.


The following duties are normal for this position.  These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned.

Health Center Controlled Network (HCCN) Grant Project Coordinator 25%

  • Work with the 11 participating health centers to identify a HCCN Grant Project Champion at each health center, and lead this group toward achievement of HCCN Grant goals.
  • Work with the HCCN Grant Project Champions to develop, help implement and monitor individualized work plans aligned with the INConcertCare network master work plan to meet grant goals in the areas of:
    • Health IT Implementation and Meaningful Use
    • Data Quality and Reporting
    • Health Information Exchange (HIE)
    • Population Health Management
    • Quality Improvement.
  • Define and oversee the HCCN grant project scope, goals, objectives, deliverables, resources and deadlines.
  • Constantly monitor and report progress of project to all health center and network. stakeholders, the HRSA Project Officer, and the INConcertCare Board. This will include project progress updates such as a weekly newsletters or similar communication.
  • Ensure project goals are met in time and on budget; effectively communicate deficiencies to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Represent INConcertCare through participation in HRSA’s national HCCN Peer Learning Team.
  • Lead preparation of annual progress reports and annual grant applications and related data collection for submission to HRSA.

Health IT Project Management and Other Members Service and Support 50%

  • Project manage approved HIT products with member centers including, but not limited to, product add-ons, device or equipment interfaces, patient engagement tools (i.e. automated care alerts, home health monitoring, etc.), or applications proving increased automation (i.e. auto-indexing, e-Prescribing, patient registration tools, electronic signature, etc.)
  • Provide additional support for future specific telehealth or eHealth network projects.
  • Provide additional support for specific Health Information Exchange initiatives (HIE).
  • Provide member service and support through team-based support activities in the INConcertCare Help Desk system.
  • Pursue timely resolution of vendor issues and tickets for the benefit of our members.

EMR / EDR Training and Optimization (non-GE Centricity) 25%

  • Provide technical assistance toward system optimization for member health centers on the non-hosted HIT platforms that include NextGen, AthenaHealth, and SuccessEHS, including facilitation of vendor-based workgroups for best practice development, sharing and escalation of issues.
  • Help identify health center provider and staff training needs and work with the vendors to coordinate and/or conduct end user training.
  • Identify potential interface or system issues and work with health centers to take corrective measures.
  • Provide users with assistance solving software related problems, such as malfunctions and general application issues.


This job does not have supervisory responsibilities.


The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in information technology, healthcare administration or a related healthcare or IT field.

  • Three or more years working directly with health information technology in an ambulatory healthcare setting.
  • Proven program/project management skills, specifically related to health IT.
  • Experience with setup, use, management, and maintenance of at least one Electronic Health Record application. GE Centricity, NextGen, AthenaHealth, and SuccessEHS preferred.
  • Well-versed with all federal, state and HIPPA privacy regulations.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to provide clear, concise directives.
  • Ability to manage, work and deliver results on multiple projects at the same time
  • Knowledge of FQHCs' regulatory requirements, health care delivery standards, policies and procedures is strongly preferred.
