Data Reporting Specialist- Des Moines, IA

The position provides extraction and data collection, visualizations and custom reports according to organization and network needs. 


The following duties are normal for this position.  These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned. 

  • Writes queries and create reports to provide data to internal business units and network of community health centers 
  • Plans, develops, tests and delivers data reports and data visualizations for internal and network requests  
  • Maintains a working knowledge of the data and usage of the electronic health record systems  
  • Gathers and documents functional and technical requirements and translate requirements into reporting solutions  
  • Creates standard operating procedures to ensure consistency of reoccurring reports  
  • Assists in data analysis and data interpretation to distinguish patterns and recognize trends  
  • Understands and shares and/or presents data effectively to internal and external customers and is able to answer questions about the data 
  • Validates data impacts of application updates 
  • Completes analysis, validation and reporting of payor data

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in healthcare related field and/or Information Technology preferred.  
  • Associate degree in information technology, computer science, programming or like certification/experience required. 
  • Five years demonstrated work experience with report writing/development and data analysis with minimum 2 years Tableau development  
  • Experience with EPIC business intelligence tools preferred  
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the manipulation of user defined fields and calculations  
  • Demonstrated knowledge of database schemas, extraction and reporting of data from a variety of sources (flat files, relational databases, spreadsheets, etc.)  
  • Proficient in databases, queries, sub-queries and sub-files  
  • Proficiency in query and report writing skills utilizing Tableau, SQL, Crystal or equivalent including design, development, testing, and documentation  
  • Demonstrated knowledge of conveying results through the use of strong communication skills  
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements and industry best practices  
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite including strong Microsoft Excel knowledge  
  • Knowledge of medical terminology; clinical experience preferred.  
  • High analytical skills, attention to detail, language and reasoning ability. Excellent business acumen 

Language Skills: 

Ability to read and interpret documents and operating and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups. 

Mathematical Skills: 

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. 

Reasoning Ability: 

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. 

Computer Skills: 

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, including spreadsheets, word processing, and databases.
