Communications Consultant - Des Moines, IA

PURPOSE OF POSITION

As part of the Policy and Communications team, the Communications Consultant will support communications work relative to the strategic direction and positioning of the Iowa Primary Care Association, INConcertCare, and IowaHealth+ and member community health centers. This individual will work with community health centers to provide technical assistance for communications (digital, patient engagement materials, etc.) and enthusiastically engages with community health center and internal staff in developing persuasive messaging and content.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned.

Digital Communications

  • Leads developing digital engagement strategy for Iowa PCA, INCC, and IH+
  • Develops cutting edge content and manages social media, website, and blog using multimedia including photography and video
  • Analyzes website and social media metrics to develop strategies to expand online presence and increase stakeholder engagement
  • Identifies strategy and develops and implements digital engagement training and technical assistance plan for community health centers

Communications

  • Collaborates with Director of Communications to develop and execute annual communications plan to achieve network’s strategic goals and objectives
  • Drives collaboration with community health center and internal staff to develop content that effectively demonstrates the value and tells the story of community health centers.

Branding

  • Supports brand development and awareness strategies
  • Coordinates development and review process of communications materials
  • Provides graphic design assistance

Event Management

  • Collaborates with Director of Communications with planning of communications, advocacy, or outreach events including Annual Conference, Day on the Hill, etc.
  • Coordinates Iowa PCA Communications and Engagement Committee meetings.
  • Facilitates logistics and fosters relationships with annual sponsors

General

  • Assists with other communications requests from Director of Communications or other leadership staff members as requested.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree and minimum of three years of experience in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or related field.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator)
  • Demonstrated ability to produce work with a high degree of accuracy under minimal supervision in a team-based environment
  • Demonstrates exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and quality of deliverables.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and strong proofreading and editing skills
  • Demonstrated ability to use persuasive communication, active listening, and to lead the conversation.
  • Experience or ability to represent the organization in a public setting

Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents, operating and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization. 

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, including spreadsheets, word processing, and databases.
